Option Subjects

We offer 20 subject options in Transition year; these are the subject options that are available for the Leaving Certificate.

Transition year students study 7 option subjects.

We ask students to select 10 subjects in order of preference in VSWare, and we try to select the 7 highest preferences of these.

For many, this will be their first 7 preferences; however, we cannot guarantee this, as practical subjects in particular have max class sizes that are permitted in schools.

Continental Language:

If the student studied German for Junior Cycle, this must be the selected subject from 1 of the 7 subjects (preference number doesn’t matter).

If the student studied Spanish for Junior Cycle, this must be selected as 1 of the 7 subjects (preference number doesnt matter).

If the student studied neither Spanish nor German for Junior Cycle, they do not select either Spanish or German in their 10 preferences.

Students are free not to choose a continental language when they enter the 5th year.
