Environmental Society and the Green-Schools Programme

The Environmental Society at St. Colman’s Community College has been at the heart of our school’s commitment to sustainability and climate action for over a decade. Working closely with the Green-Schools Programme, the Society provides students with opportunities to learn, lead, and take action on environmental issues within our school, our local community, and beyond.

Through workshops, campaigns, and hands-on activities, our students have promoted awareness of biodiversity, waste reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, and sustainable travel. The Society is student-driven, supported by staff mentors, and aims to foster environmental responsibility, leadership, and pride in making a difference.

Over the years, the Environmental Society and Green-Schools team have achieved significant recognition at local and national level, including:

  • An Taisce Ocean Hero School of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021; 2022, shortlisted finalists in 2023, and 2024.

  • Water Ambassador Programme (2015–2016)

The Environmental Society continues to provide a platform for students to take the lead on environmental initiatives, supported by staff, parents, and community partners. Their achievements demonstrate the power of young people working together for change and highlight St. Colman’s as a school committed to sustainability, innovation, and student leadership.
